Reaction Part 4 Ch 4-6

         Raskolnikovs luck has astonished me throughout the whole novel. As I was reading the last few chapters of Part 4, I thought that Raskolnikov would surely get caught before he ran away from town. Before he gets ready to leave, Raskolnikov decides to go down to the police station and claim all of the items he had at Alyonas house. I thought this act would make it even more obvious to Porfiry that Raskolnikov is the murderer. While Raskolnikov is down at the station Porfiry begins to question him again. Raskolnikov decides to stay quiet but like always he ends up letting his anger get the best of him. Porfiry tries to calm Raskolnikov down. At that moment I was almost sure that Raskolnikov was going to admit that he is the murderer, his guilt is getting worse as time passes and I am sure that he will not be able to hold his secret in for much longer. Suddenly a suspect being held as a possible murderer of Alyona runs out and confesses to be the murderer. I do not know why anyone would ever do this. This man is probably far more mentally unstable than Rasskolnikov is. I hope that later on in the novel there will be some kind of explication from him as to why he confessed to be the murderer. Porfiry does not believe this man, but still decides to take care of the matter seriously. Raskolnikov leaves and has a good feeling that he will be able to get away with the crime after all even though he has made it ridiculously clear to Porfiry that he is the murderer.
         Raskolnikov still plans to run away. In my opinion, he plans to run away because he thinks that once he leaves his old life behind, he will leave behind his guilt from the crime as well. If Raskolnikov does run away, it will be even more obvious that he is the murderer of Alyona, so I do not think that is the best choice. His encounter with Sonya was a little strange.. But I understand why he would ask her to run away with him. He knows that he is a murderer, but he thinks that she is one too because she took her own life away. I think that Raskolnikov believes that she will be a good companion to run away with, but I do not think that Sonya thinks the same about him.
